Papua New Guinea Coffee: Our New Single Origin

This week, we're exploring a truly special Papua New Guinea coffee on our bar, and we think you're going to love it. We just got in a fresh lot of Lahamenega Red Mountain, roasted for us by the fantastic team at Kudu Roaster. This coffee is as vibrant and fascinating as its origin, and it’s one of those beans that reminds us why we fell in love with coffee in the first place.

What Makes This Papua New Guinea Coffee Special?

The Lahamenega is grown in the Eastern Highlands, a region known for its rich volcanic soil and ideal coffee-growing altitudes. The 'Red Mountain' in its name hints at the cherry-red, perfectly ripe coffee fruit that the farmers meticulously hand-pick. This careful selection process is the first step in creating a clean, sweet, and complex cup. It's a coffee that tells a story of its place, and we're just thrilled to be a small part of that story here in our shop.

Tasting Notes: A Burst of Fruit

Get ready for a flavor journey. The first thing you'll notice is a bright, pleasant acidity, almost like biting into a fresh cherry. That's quickly followed by waves of other fruit notes. We're tasting sweet banana, a little bit of zesty citrus, and a lingering strawberry finish that’s just fantastic.

It’s a very fruit-forward coffee without being overpowering. It maintains a beautiful balance that makes it incredibly easy to drink, cup after cup.

How We're Brewing It

One of the best things about this coffee is its versatility. We've been dialing it in all week, and it shines in two distinct ways:

  • As Espresso: The shot is syrupy and sweet, really emphasizing the deep cherry and banana notes. It makes for a truly memorable flat white.
  • As Filter: Brewed as a pour-over, the coffee opens up completely. The citrus and strawberry notes come to the forefront, creating a crisp, clean, and refreshing cup.

This one is on the bar all week, but small lots like this don't last forever. Stop by the shop, say hello, and let us brew you a cup of this incredible Lahamenega Red Mountain. We can't wait to hear what you think.
